Overview
When using "Lemmata to include" or "Lemmata to exclude" options within VoC Mine sometimes we need to analyze some lemmas together. Exactly for this purpose there is an "AND/OR" join condition. You can find the "AND/OR" switch both within "Lemmata to include" and "Lemmata to exclude" tabs on the left-side menu bar.
First let's consider in detail how conditions of "AND/OR" Mode work within "Lemmata to include" option.
There are two conditions "AND" and "OR" we can switch between.
AND
When we add two or more "lemmata to include" with the "AND" condition and execute query we get all text cases where both lemmas are presented.
In the picture below you can see there are 21 text cases overall (Text cases 21):
Now when we've added two lemmas "work" and "perfect" and applied the filter, we get only one text case where both lemmas "work" and "perfect" are present:
OR
The "OR" condition within "Lemma to include" tab means that all text cases that include any of added lemmas will be presented after query execution. After we have added two lemmas "yes" and "really" with "OR" mode condition, we got 3 Text cases of 21 total where either "yes" or "really" are mentioned.
"Lemmata to exclude"
The behavior of "AND" and "OR" is pretty much the same when used with "Lemmata to exclude" option.
In short: when you add two lemmas to exclude at "Lemmata to exclude" tab with mode condition "AND", it will exclude all text cases where both lemmas are presented. With "OR" all text cases where any of the listed lemmas are presented will be excluded.
Note: please take into consideration that when you click the lemmas within the Word Cloud in "Lemmata to exclude" tab they are automatically added to "Lemmata to include" tab.
