Sender Policy Framework (SPF)

Overview

SandSIV sends invites using our own SMTP mailer on behalf of our customers. Being our customer, you need to supply Sender Address as part of the survey setup. The receiving side then checks if SandSIV is permitted to send emails on behalf of the domain used in Sender Address. When you use supply a Sender Address in the survey, it is assumed that you are controlling the domain in Sender Address.

SPF checks are performed against the "envelope from" address which is also known as Return-Path header. Hence the SPF record needs to be added to the domain specified in the "envelope from" address.

Please be aware of the following:

1. SandSIV calls the "envelope from" address Email Address for Bounce Emails in VoC Feedback. When no Email Address for Bounce Emails is set, "envelope from" is derived from Sender Address value.
2. You can set up Sender Address in Advanced Settings. There is the following inheritance logic: if Invitation Email - Sender Address - Language specific is specified it has precedence over Invitation Email - Sender Address in Advanced Settings.
3. The field values themselves are first derived from Global Settings and are overridden if defined on the survey level.

Example

Some "Company" sets up a survey with Sender Address noreply@company-surveys.tld and an Email Address for Bounce Emails bounce@company.tld

Since SPF checks are performed against the domain specified in the bounce email settings, the company needs to create or update an SPF record of company.tld (not company-surveys.tld) domain to include our SMTP server, e.g. "v=spf1 ip4:77.109.144.50 ~all".

Warning: You shouldn't use the domain names over which you don't have full control.
